May 3rd, 2018. That was the last day that Sportscaster Life posted new content. But after a 480-odd day hiatus, one of a couple for Sportscaster Life in its history, I’m excited to say that the Life is back and better than ever.
So what happened?
The answer is a pretty simple one with two parts. Firstly, my idea vault for new content dried up. I lost a bit of passion for sportscasting and didn’t find it holding the same lure for me as it had in the past. That, combined with ramping responsibilities with my job and a baby on the way in September 2018 meant my spare time became less and less.
Secondly, I didn’t really have any accountability or anyone/anything pushing me to produce for Sportscaster Life. We’d seen some steady growth over the years but somewhat plateaued.
But I’m really excited to say that in the past few weeks, we’ve been able to rectify both of those issues and Sportscaster Life is returning like never before.
Since I created the Broadcaster Hub (predecessor of Sportscaster Life) in 2012, it’s been just me. Outside of a handful of contributor articles, the 300-odd posts on this website were all me. I’m constantly amazed at how some people do this, but I knew that if the Life was to return, I couldn’t do it alone.
Enter TJ Chillot, who has been a long-time professional colleague down in the States and someone who I’ve long admired for his passion and work ethic. TJ approached me over the summer about helping out and after a few conversations, we’ve come to an agreement to move forward.
TJ will not only bring a second original voice to Sportscaster Life, but also a massive network down in the US which I lacked…being based in Canada. He also brings a fantastic slate of ideas that will help move this project forward.
So beginning Monday September 9th, we’re excited to roll out a content schedule of 3 days a week (Monday, Thursday and Friday) with additional contributor posts on alternate Wednesday’s.
This is just the start.
TJ and I are working on a couple of larger projects that will help take Sportscaster Life to the next level, including some multimedia projects that we’re excited to share with you.
So how can you help? Read. Share. Discuss. And if you’re feeling particularly generous, take a look at our sportscasting scorebooks for football, baseball, hockey and basketball. Every dollar that Sportscaster Life makes goes back into the website to pay for hosting, equipment and other necessities.
See you (for real) on Monday.
