There are few challenges in sportscasting as demanding and unique as broadcasting professional wrestling, and one of the best is Mauro Ranallo.
As we’ve discussed on Sportscaster Life before, professional wrestling is a perfect blend between drama and sports and allows for so much storytelling. It’s unique in the sense that in some cases you will know the winner of any given bout before it occurs, however you’re tasked with calling the action on the fly.
Ranallo is the current broadcaster for WWE’s NXT brand, which has recently began a stint on USA Network along with being on WWE’s streaming platform, Mauro Ranallo brings his high energy storytelling ability to a broadcast that features the next generation or stars, and performers that have dedicated, passionate individual fan bases.
Where Mauro Ranallo further differentiates himself is in his battle with mental illness, namely bipolar disorder. Showtime has recently produced a documentary on Ranallo, his career and his struggles with mental health.
The Showtime-produced documentary starring NXT announcer Mauro Ranallo, titled “Bipolar Rock ‘N’ Roller,” is available now in full on YouTube.
Other than being the captivating mouthpiece for NXT, Mauro Ranallo has also been a longtime social advocate for mental health, having dealt with his own decades-long struggle with Bipolar Affective Disorder. Peeling the layers back, Ranallo and Showtime provide a raw and unflinching account on this personal journey of enduring, as well as the power and possibility of overcoming.
