Legendary baseball commentator Bob Costas couldn’t hold it anymore, abandoning the booth mid-innings to answer nature’s call.
One of the most respected personalities in American sport, Costas was calling a game between the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners when he had to go. Literally. Costas asked his broadcasting partner John Smoltz on air, “How are your play-by-play skills?”
“They’re not bad,” Smoltz said. “Good. Take over for a while,” Costas added, before disappearing for a few moments.
Smoltz took the disturbance in his stride, calling the action without missing a beat. When Costas returned he explained the situation to all who cared to listen.
